Some 137 years ago, the tree that recently won the European Tree of the Year competition and even inspired Janus Pannonius was planted in Pécs. The ancient almond tree of Pécs, which defies the northern winds, is a real celebrity of the flora; its beauty and age will enchant anyone who makes a pilgrimage to the Church of Our Lady of the Snows. The tree, with its twisted trunk and pink blossoms already in February, looks out to the world from one of the most beautiful parts of Pécs, the Havihegy.
