N-Eozin Grill Terrace and Culture Park, Pécs

The N-Eozin Grill Terrace and Culture Park, one of the most popular outdoor meeting places for locals, is located in a magical historical setting, in the heart of Pécs, along the castle walls. True to its name, the barbeque and grill dish sortiment is extensive, but the menu offers everything from spicy pork and beef pies, to authentic Balkan dishes, squid and grilled goat cheese. The drinks menu offers a wide and quality selection of wines, but even if you are just in for a refreshing Aperol Spitz, you won’t be left out. In addition to great barbecue, live sports broadcasts, live acoustic music concerts and DJs will ensure a good atmosphere on weekends. But the non plus ultra of N-Eozin is the unadulterated panorama of Pécs: the terrace offers an unparalleled view of the landscape below.

Interestingly, under the trees of the Cultural Park and down a flight of stairs at the House of Civic Communities, there are a number of family and cultural programmes in the summer and off-season.

Szigliget Castle Courtyard, Szigliget

One of the most outstanding culinary and cultural centres on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, the Szigliget Castle offers visitors a wealth of experiences in summer, too. At the foot of the renovated Szigliget Castle, you can get acquainted with the street food concept of Jenő Rácz, while downtown flavours are served by Digo Pizza, Buja Disznók and Costes, and traditional food lovers can choose from the offer of the Várvendéglő (Castle Restaurant’s) bistro kitchen. There’s also horn cakes, Unicone winter ice cream and Nespresso coffee on the menu, and Gléda Szigliget contributes to the refined culinary experience. But more importantly, concerts and theatre performances are held in the courtyard throughout the summer – and on several occasions beyond the summer season. For example, thanks to the Central Theatre, the play titled Játék a kastélyban (‘Game in the Castle’) is coming to Szigliget with Róbert Alföldi. In addition, towards the end of the summer, the band EDDA and its story will be revived in the form of a musical.

Káli-kapocs, Mindszentkálla

One of the most beloved ruin taverns in the Káli Basin is Káli-kapocs, where you can not only enjoy great local wines, coffee, craft beers and beers on the menu, but also a simple-but-generous daily menu. The owner, who is originally from the capital, could not deny his passion for antiques, and the interior of the Kali-Kapocs is largely made up of relics from the past century.  But it’s not just the pub’s décor that links the relics of different eras, its audience is also extremely diverse: hence the name. The Káli-Kapocs also hosts open-air music evenings and concerts from spring to autumn, so if the Káli Basin is your destination, don’t miss this atmospheric venue – who knows, you might even end up at an impromptu Punnany Massif concert.

MűvészVölgy Kúria, Kapolcs (Artists’ Valley Mansion in Kapolcs)

Kapolcs is located in a secret but all the more important corner of the Lake Balaton highlands, in the centre of which is the MűvészVölgy Kúria complex. One of the venues of the Valley of the Arts offers a varied programme of cultural, artistic and scientific events not only in summer but all year round.  The main building houses the Kuthy Café, where you can sip excellent coffee, but also taste delicacies from the region’s traditional farmers. In the outdoor community space created by HelloWood, you can listen to film screenings, outdoor performances, professional and music programmes while drinking a glass of wine.

Szél Fia Cellárium, Nyúl (Son of Wind Cellarium in Nyúl)

In Tibor Prisztóka’s “realm”, you can enjoy a complex gastronomic experience that evokes the past. The Szél Fia Cellárium is located on the vineyard hill of the “Lila Hill” in Nyúl, part of the Pannonhalma Wine Region, where the Hungarian homey flavours of our grandparents are brought to life on the plate. The dishes are paired with the winery’s traditional wines.

“In both winemaking and catering, I am obsessed with tradition, with old, traditional winemaking and food, and we try to show our guests the scents and flavours of nature in all its honesty.” – says the owner.

Dinner is accompanied by live music on Saturday evenings and lunch on Sundays at noon, and if you are staying overnight, the hotel offers not only comfortable rooms but also an outdoor pool with sun terrace, sauna and sports facilities.
