4 easy hiking tips if you are going on a trip with a baby on your back!
Wandering on the magical island of Kis-Balaton, in sleep-inducing sound of grebes
Distance: 2 km
Time: 1.5 hours
Kányavári Island can be found in one of the wonderful areas of the Balaton Uplands National Park, in the heart of Kis-Balaton. There is a special hiking trail here, the Búbos Vöcsök nature trail, which you can comfortably perambulate with your baby as well. The easiest way to approach the island is from Zalavár and Balatonmagyaród, then you can park your car directly next to the lake. A special wooden bridge leads to the island, from where the approximately 2-kilometer nature trail begins. The route can be completed leisurely in 1-1.5 hours, including the short stops at the 15 educational stations along the trail. If we still have strength left and the baby has been put to sleep by the sound of grebes, let's continue walking - now on the shore of the lake - to the Madárvárta birdwatching, which is a group of huts built from acacia logs. It is pleasantly cool inside on hot summer days, and if we are patient, we can even catch a glimpse of eating herons through the viewing holes of the huts.
A panoramic tour on the Misina peak in Pécs, with a magnificent view and a playful ending
Distance: 6 km
Time: 2 hours
The highest building in our country, the TV tower, rises on the Misina peak in Pécs - for this reason, but also for the magical hiking trails in the area, it is worth visiting here. If you are not a big fan of ascents, but you like the beautiful view and a baby is with you, then leave your car at the Misina Peak and start your medium-length tour from here. The yellow lane tourist sign heading west leads to the Rotary nature trail, which practically bypasses Kis-Tubes and Tubes, sparing the hiker from a serious level rise. The vegetation on the path changes almost minute by minute and the trees tell a story about themselves on the posted signs. On the north side beeches, on the east and west sides oak and mixed trees "speak to us". Returning to the Misina peak, it is worth going up to the lookout point of the TV tower, from where you can enjoy an unparalleled panoramic view, and it is nice to relax on the Misina Peak Family and Activity Playgrounds. Do not be sad even if it is getting dark, because the building of the Misina Centre offers an extremely impressive sight even when lit up!
A wildflower hike to the "lighthouse" of the Strázsa Hill in the Danube Bend
Distance: 1.7 km
Time: 1 hour
The part of the area that used to function as a military shooting range, Strázsa Hill, is located on the edge of the Danube-Ipoly National Park. The lookout of the Kis-Strázsa Hill, resembling a lighthouse, rises at the top of the hill, and is not only an excellent photo subject, but also a great destination for an easy walk. If we start from the Kökörcsin house, from the parking lot of the presentation building of the Danube-Ipoly National Park, we can take a pleasant walk up to the tower and then back. Passing the Gyilkos Lake (do not worry, despite its name, the pond is truly quiet), follow the signs for the Strázsa hill nature trail. The protected flora and fauna are introduced by boards, and our path is first surrounded by frogs croaking, different species of lizards sneaking by, and wildflowers in the spring. After enjoying the panorama from the lookout, let's descend on the north side of the hill, where we can also see the viewpoint overlooking the abandoned quarry. The road soon runs into the path leading up, from where we can return to the Kökörcsin House.
A walk in the Hungarian Jurassic Park, where you can "rejuvenate" thousands of years with every step
In Nógrád County, we can take part in a real time travel and we do not even have to leave the littlest ones at home. The Ipolytarnóc Ancient Remains nature reserve takes you back to the prehistoric past of about 17 million years! In the visitor centre, an 800-meter tour awaits you, where you can admire ancient shark teeth, petrified trees, and prehistoric animal footprints, while with each step you "travel" 15,000 years into the past. In the Hungarian Jurassic Park, you can also find an exciting canopy walkway, where you can observe the primaeval park from a bird's eye view. On the 110-meter length of the Tuzson Lombkorona promenade, you can get to know the wildlife of the forest and on several levels of the incoming tower, playful puzzles will also entertain hikers. In this way, we can walk up to one kilometre in total at an easy pace, without a serious level rise, and even if older children are with us, they will not get bored either!
