Building a gingerbread town and Christmas House in Gödöllő

Since 2017, the building of a gingerbread town for charity has become a tradition in Gödöllő. It doesn’t matter if you are local or just interested, and to make it even more exciting, you can even try your hand at a beauty contest – as far as your artwork is concerned. You can also find the event on the city’s website or social media pages, and if you want to apply, you can do so individually or as a team. The three most popular gingerbread creations will receive a certificate and votes can be cast online or in person.

The finished pieces will be exhibited and then given to the residents of the Gödöllő nursing home of the elderly to make their Christmas brighter.

While you are in Gödöllő, head to the Christmas House, a wonderful shop decorated with unique Christmas decorations. The small shop has been open for more than 20 years. It is easy to get to, located opposite the Gödöllő Castle, and every year from the first of November, it is open to the public.

Our sweet little village – gingerbread village of Csömör

The making of gingerbread models of villages and towns is in its heyday. In 2019, Csömör also joined in, and the residents joined forces and spent more than two months creating a tiny, sweet replica of the village. The exhibition has grown and grown over the years. In addition to the many exciting activities of the Advent Fair, after eating a chimney cake, you can visit the snow-covered rooftops of “Our sweet little village” in the House of Traditions of the Tóts in Csömör, which makes the gingerbread structures even more special with its unique lighting.

Active Christmas in the Bakony

There is nothing more beautiful than when the first snow falls in anticipation of Advent, dressing the landscape in white. If you would prefer to spend the holidays actively relaxing, or just enjoying nature, or perhaps staying in the safe warmth of a forest-edge accommodation, you should keep your eyes open in the Bakony, because you can do it all in the Tejfeles Guesthouse at the foot of Kőris Hill. The guesthouse is located on the National Blue Trail, right on the edge of the forest, a fairytale-like picture while sipping your morning coffee or evening mulled wine.

If the holidays are spent in active relaxation, put on your boots and head up through the Cuha Valley to the top of Kőris Hill, the highest point of the Bakony. With a bit of luck, you might spot some deer on the way! You can take an easy hike to Lake Gyilkos in Bakony, the view is worth every step. For relaxation, there is also the possibility of a relaxing swim in the Várkert Baths in Pápa, and if you still have some energy left at the end of the day, Veszprém has great restaurants and attractions.
