The atmosphere of the Rio Carnival in Debrecen

The “Debreceni Virágkarnevál” (Debrecen Flower Carnival) is the highlight event of the year, held almost every year since its debut in 1966, in honour of the founding of the state. The internationally renowned event is usually a series of programmes in several parts of the city, complete with concerts, plays, exhibitions and dance performances, but the most spectacular part is the colourful procession of carts decorated with giant floral arrangements parading through the city, accompanied by Hungarian and foreign art groups, majorette groups, flag-waving and brass bands providing the music.
