Let’s find a good way to wait for spring!
On the last weekend of the carnival season, a special folk tradition comes to life in Novaj, Heves County. The folk custom called Remélés is one of our most authentic spring-waiting rites, the origins of which are connected to fertility magic and the changing of the seasons. According to tradition, young men dress up in funny masks and march through the village in a festive procession, clinking, joking, and blackmailing girls. The goal of making noise is not only to drive away winter, but also to bring the community together, during which laughter, playful teasing, and the atmosphere of the past are mixed.
