Holiday cruise: romance recharged!
Following the example of foreign countries, holiday cruise tourism is becoming increasingly popular in Hungary as well: in most regions, waterside settlements await water tourists with mooring and stopping options. As the number of ports increases, more and more attractions and catering establishments occur on the banks of rivers. But why is this form of travel so popular? On the one hand, MAHART holiday boats serve not only as a means of transportation but also as comfortable accommodation during the sailing season lasting from early spring to late autumn. On the other hand, these slow-moving motorized vehicles can be easily driven after just a 1.5-hour training session, and their decks are fully equipped even for a longer weekend. And the biggest advantage is that you can dock anywhere that can accommodate boats of this size!

You also have the opportunity to rent a boat on Lake Tisza and in the Körös region, but Tokaj stands out among the possibilities. This region is not only special because of its picturesque landscapes and water experiences, but its world-famous wineries and historical towns also offer countless attractions and programmes. You only have to decide which romantic port you will stop at – and whether you will enjoy the candlelit dinner on the board of the boat, under the starry sky, or in one of the riverside wonders.
Actively even as a couple
The Tokaji Hill and its surroundings are an excellent destination for a romantic trip. You can start the day with a pleasant hike to the Kopasz Hill, at the top of which the Finánc-Hill lookout stands. From here, a stunning panorama opens up: the confluence of the Bodrog and Tisza rivers, as well as the picturesque view of the surrounding vineyards, are breathtaking. Not far from the lookout tower the Tokaj-Hétszőlő Organic Vineyards can be found, where you can take part in wine tasting, vineyard tours and cellar visits with prior registration. It is worth lingering a while on the panoramic estate and soaking up the incomparable atmosphere of Tokaj.

If you continue on, you will reach one of the most special parts of the wine region, the famous loess vineyards. The Szerelmi Vineyard, which towers above the settlement, is a steep but unique sight: The path winding between the vineyards, in places on 30-metre-high loess walls, offers a wonderful view of the landscape!
Things to discover in the area
Of course, Tokaj is one of the most important stops during river cruises, but the surrounding towns also offer a lot to explore! Bodrogkeresztúr is located just a few kilometres from Tokaj and provides a peaceful mooring for boaters. In the town, it is worth visiting the Tokaj Nobilis Vineyard, but do not miss the local attraction either: the lowest lookout tower in the country, the Panorama Lookout Point. This disc-shaped structure, which is only 40 centimetres high, is a great photo subject, not to mention the wonderful panorama of the surrounding landscape.
Bodrogkisfalud, where you find the Patricius Wine House, can also be an ideal stop. With prior registration, you can even stop by for a picnic combined with a visit to the cellar. The basket includes delicacies from local producers, home-made baguettes and Patrícius wines. Last but not least, it is worth stopping in Rakamaz, located on the other side of the Tisza River. This settlement hides special natural treasures: the bird and plant life of the area is rare and valuable, making it an unmissable destination for nature lovers. It is a great place for bird watching and quiet, relaxing walks, for example.
